How do I copy updated content from my OLD_courseID-TEMPLATE into the NEW_courseID-TEMPLATE or blank section#?

In July 2022, Academic Affairs began the switch to NEW courseIDs. Over the next several quarters, schedules will mix OLD courseIDs and NEW courseIDs. It is imperative to have both the OLD_courseID-TEMPLATES and NEW_courseID-TEMPLATES setup.

Here is the process for maximizing efforts:

  1. Update the OLD_courseID-TEMPLATE (EX: ACC100-TEMPLATE) using the TEMPLATE Prep Checklist as a guide.
  2. Watch How To: Use Copy Components for NEW_courseID-TEMPLATE.
  3. Enter the blank NEW_courseID-TEMPLATE (EX: ACC102-TEMPLATE) OR new section# from the My Courses widget or Course Selector “waffle." This is your destination course.
    1. Course Tools > Course Admin
    2. Import / Export / Copy Components
    3. Use “Copy Components from another Org Unit” > Search for Offering
    4. Type in the OLD_courseID > press Search
    5. Select the OLD_courseID-TEMPLATE > Add Selected
    6. Select Copy All Components
  4. After you see “Copy Completed” and a green checkmark, all items should be present.
  5. Use View Content or Content in the gray navbar to move to the full Table of Contents for your NEW_courseID-TEMPLATE

Other use cases and items to note:

  • The Copy process ALWAYS starts from within the destination course.
  • Copy an OLD_courseID-TEMPLATE into a newly created NEW_courseID section.
  • Copy a current section (any courseID) into a blank TEMPLATE at/near the end of the quarter.
  • Use Course Reset on an unedited or incomplete TEMPLATE (CANNOT BE RESTORED!) then Copy a current section (any courseID) into TEMPLATE.
  • Use Course Reset on a newly created section then Copy a past section (that was updated/run within the past 4 quarters).
    • Sections older than 4 quarters should be reviewed by Department Chair or team members to ensure assessments and activities align with current LOs.
